Sensing Physics

Measurement and imaging, where the sensor is real but the diagnostic story often overreaches it: pulse-wave “vascular age,” whole-body ultrasound screening, fingertip corona discharge, and consumer “terahertz” devices that emit no terahertz. The discipline here is separating a validated measurement from the claim layered on top.

GDV / Kirlian (Korotkov)Corona discharge is real, measurable electrodynamics; the biofield-diagnosis interpretation is unsupported (a Polish study failed to establish the relationship). Instrument real; interpretation not confirmed.Tested — not confirmed   grade FAngioCode — Vascular-Age PhotoplethysmographyOne atlas entry for the AngioCode 'vascular-age' line. Photoplethysmography with pulse-wave contour analysis is a real, validated method; the consumer 'vascular age / cardiovascular diagnosis' interpretation overreaches the sensor. The registered indication is narrow; the marketing is broad.Insufficient evidence / under study   grade C/DMidjourney Medical — Full-Body Ultrasound ScannerAnnouncement-stage whole-body ultrasound scanner. The ultrasound imaging substrate is real; the broad whole-body-screening / mortality-reduction claim is unvalidated and not FDA-cleared to diagnose. Mirrors the AngioCode pattern — real substrate, broad interpretation unvalidated.Insufficient evidence / under study   grade DNeko Health — Consumer Multi-Sensor Full-Body ScanNeko's hardware is genuine: a single visit combines thermal imaging, 3D body/skin scanning, ECG, laser/optical and finger sensors, and blood tests, generating millions of data points per session. What is missing is outcome evidence — no randomized trial shows that scanning asymptomatic, healthy people improves survival or other hard outcomes, and broad screening of the well carries a real risk of overdiagnosis and false positives. The brand is best read as an example of the consumer-full-body-scan class, which sits in the under-study / sensing-overreach tier: real instruments, an unproven population-screening claim.Insufficient evidence / under study   grade DMESI — Automated Oscillometric ABI (PAD screening)The MESI ABPI MD is an automated oscillometric ABI meter for peripheral artery disease (PAD) screening that computes the ankle-brachial index from simultaneous limb-pressure cuffs rather than manual hand-held Doppler. ABI itself is a guideline- and USPSTF-recognized vascular index, and the automated MESI version has been validated against the Doppler reference in multicentre data and assessed in systematic-review work on portable ABI screening systems. In this atlas it is the worked example of sensing done right: a genuine physical measurement making a narrow, validated diagnostic claim. It is deliberately contrasted with consumer scanners (e.g. the AngioCode and Neko entries) that extend a real signal into unvalidated 'vascular-age' or whole-body claims.Evidence-supported   grade BCGM-as-Longevity — Consumer Glucose Monitoring (non-diabetic)This is a class of genuinely accurate, FDA-cleared over-the-counter glucose sensors whose use in diabetes and impaired-glucose conditions is well-grounded. The leap comes when the same hardware is sold to healthy non-diabetic people under a 'longevity / metabolic-optimization' framing, where the benefit claim rests entirely on surrogate markers — chiefly glucose variability and postprandial peaks — with no hard-endpoint outcome data. Systematic reviews of CGM in non-diabetic populations find only associations and intermediate measures, not reductions in cardiovascular events or mortality. It therefore sits in the under-study / overreach tier: a real sensor carrying an over-extended healthspan promise.Insufficient evidence / under study   grade DContactless Radar Vital-Sign & Sleep SensingGrade attaches to the MEASUREMENT only. Three FDA-cleared products with narrow labels — and none is an acute alarm.Evidence-supported   grade BBuilding Environmental SensingThe measurement is established; the open question is what a supervisory layer does with the values, not whether the values are real.Evidence-supported   grade BAccelerated Screening MRI (Longevity Paradigm)The instrument is established; the annual full-body-screening paradigm is not. A public vendor dispute over acquisition quality is carried unresolved on the row.Insufficient evidence / under study   grade C/D
