The Dividing Line — and the Architecture of Pseudoscience

Evidence-supported modalities act through defined energy, chemistry, or measurement at quantified doses — wavelength, field strength, pulse, pressure, drug dose, a validated sensor. The unvalidated family acts through undefined “informational frequencies” with no coupling model.

Several of those undefined claims are also internally contradictory: Rife needs specific pathogen frequencies; Lakhovsky celebrates broadband exposure; scalar sellers claim non-electromagnetic fields that bypass attenuation; bioresonance claims pathology is read from the skin and mirrored back. Most have never been reduced to a falsifiable quantitative prediction.

Five recurring patterns

These are universal mechanisms — observed across Western, Soviet/post-Soviet, and Chinese markets alike. No civilizational labels apply.

• Real-phenomenon fallacy — start from a genuine effect (corona discharge, photon emission, skin impedance, pulse waveform, ultrasound) and attach an unfalsifiable claim. The phenomenon is real; the interpretation is fabricated.
• Institutional-credibility transfer — substitute a prestigious institution for evidence. “Academy-evaluated” or “from the space programme” is the same move as a misstated “FDA-listed,” “NASA technology,” or a famous tech brand on a medical device. A registration is not efficacy, in any jurisdiction.
• Quantum technobabble — append “quantum” (or “scalar,” “frequency,” “field”) to a therapy with no connection to the named physics.
• Low-cost wellness grey-market mislabeling — cheap mass production plus weak wellness-sector regulation yields meaningless labels priced unrelated to any real technology. This happens wherever those two conditions meet; one region dominates volume because it makes most consumer hardware overall, while other markets supply their own (scalar pendants, “ion” bracelets).
• Evidence-asymmetry marketing — cite the existence of “studies” (single-group, non-randomized, manufacturer-commissioned, non-indexed) while ignoring absent RCTs and negative systematic reviews.

Parasitize, not represent

Across all five, the pseudoscience branch parasitizes real science — it does not represent the tradition it borrows from. Genuine early biophysics, a real neurostimulation success story, and legitimate terahertz and photomedicine research are all real; the doctrines that trade on their names are the parasite, not the host.

A note on balance. The strong-rejection tier is not weighted to any one region: Rife, Lakhovsky, the Clark zapper, scalar devices, “quantum-healing,” Voll and Vega are all Western in origin.
