US EPA ('Ozone Generators that are Sold as Air Cleaners') is the standing federal position; California AB 2276 / CARB (since 2010) require indoor air cleaners to emit <0.050 ppm ozone and carry an 'ARB Certified' label, and CARB publishes a list of hazardous ozone generators, recommending against use except approved industrial purposes. CARB's own study: killing fungi/bacteria needs ozone ≥5 ppm — higher than most appliances produce and within the range unhealthy for people. Relevance to an occupied engineered space runs only through unoccupied-cycle disinfection with purge.
